Masculine Sympathy

It's Blogger's Challenge Friday and I'm happy to say I had this card done early.  I'm NOT happy about the occasion I had to create it for though.

Our theme today is a masculine card.  Unfortunately, a few days into June I lost a colleague to an all too short battle with cancer.  It came as quite a shock to everyone in my small company, but has hit me pretty hard.  I had worked with this gentleman for 11 years now and when I first started, he was the one who trained me.  We've been through many company changes together and I've considered him a close friend and confidante, someone I could always turn to whether it be personal or professional.  I've been denying what happened and I want to pick up the phone to call and talk to him and know I can't.

His life partner of 24 years has been wonderful in helping us to get all his work materials sent back to the office and he just returned from traveling from saying good bye to his love.  I wanted to make a nice card for him and I had just gotten this set from Clear & Simple Stamps which I thought would be good.

I tried to keep it pretty masculine while using the Unscripted Sketches Challenge this week  I picked a few masculine colors in browns, reds and greens,  I created my background by randomly stamping the feather images and then sponging the paper when I was finished.  I added some candy spot and a beautiful rose flower my friend Ashley sent me.  I didn't think it was too feminine for this card.

Hope you like the card and can't wait to see what other masculine cards everyone comes up with this week.  Join us by linking up below or on any of our blogs.

Card details:
Stamps: Feathers from Clear & Simple Stamps
Cardstock: Cherry Cobbler, Always Artichoke, Dish all the Dirt Brown, Confetti Cream
Inks: same as above
Accessories: handmade rose from Ashley, candy spots, small & large oval punches
